What is anticipatory nausea and vomiting (N&V)?

  • N&V that occurs prior to the beginning of a new cycle of treatment in response to conditioned stimuli
  • N&V that occurs more than 24 hours after treatment given at high doses or on 2 or more consecutive days
  • N&V that occurs prior to the first chemotherapy treatment due to the patient feeling nervous
  • A warning that N&V is going to occur, which allows it to be anticipated and treated
